Hectors Dolphins got their names from the scientist Sir James Hector. Sir James Hector’s friend found the dolphins and named them the Hectors Dolphins, after Sir James.

You can tell a Hectors Dolphin apart from other dolphins by its small size, rounded fin on the back, rounded head shape and rounded flippers. Other Dolphins are bigger and have a more shark-like fin.
What Do They Eat And What Are Risks To Them?
Hectors Dolphins are carnivores and only eat meat and fish etc. The threats to them are nets because they can easily get caught, boats, disease and marine pollution.
How Big Are Hectors And Are They Really Endangered?
Hectors Dolphins grow up to only 1.5meters long, being the smallest marine dolphin in the world! Yes, the Hectors are considered endangered with only about 800 left.
